ARTIST

Sunny (Nicole) Johnson is a new media artist, curator, and computer programmer from Los Angeles, California studying Interdisciplinary Computing & The Arts and Computer Science at the University of California, San Diego.
She started her artistic practices young, beginning as an illustrator and painter. Continuing these mediums throughout her younger school years, she also found a passion in ceramics at the age of 17. She has since kept up her work with all aforementioned practices, while searching to find ways to integrate them with new media work using computer software/hardware and programming.
Sunny is experienced in programming languages such as Java, Python, C/C++, and C# and has used such languages to produce beautiful artistic creations. She is also skilled in software including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects, TouchDesigner, and Processing. She currently works as a computer science tutor and graphic designer at her university.
Her current artistic interests are audio/visual programming, sustainable land art, abstract light work, 3D design (both physical and virtual), and animation.
Recently, Sunny has been working with supercomputing involving Raspberry Pi “clusters”, along with experimenting with Arduinos and other electronic components, projection mapping, computer vision, and interactive media. She is greatly influenced by film, glitch art, human emotion, feminism, sustainability, fashion, nature, and music.
